As a motorcyclist you realize that any accident, regardless of the circumstances, could cause serious injury. There are many steps you can take to prevent trouble. There is also protective safety gear you can (and should) wear at all times.
There is nothing more important than a high quality motorcycle helmet. Regardless of the road you are on or the speed you are traveling, you should always put on a helmet before taking off. Get this: the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration notes that helmets helped save almost 20,000 lives between the years 1984 and 2006.
Along with a helmet, consider the other type of gear that could keep you safe in an accident. For example, leather does more than look good. If you are thrown from your bike, it acts as a layer of protection between you and the ground.
It’s easy to think you don’t need any protective gear, especially if you are only taking a short trip. Don’t be fooled. You should put on all your gear every time you take to the road. This may sound like overkill, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
