Onstar Sued by Driver in Accident

A couple from South Dakota is suing Onstar, a division of General Motors, after they failed to send help to the scene of an accident that they were involved in. In an accident, Onstar’s security system is supposed to immediately contact emergency personnel.

The lawsuit was filed this week in federal court. The couple alleges that the device in their Chevrolet Silverado failed, which in turn led to more extensive injuries due to a delay in medical attention.

Although the lawsuit was just filed, the accident actually occurred on December 7, 2008. The couple’s truck was struck by another vehicle – the driver of the other car was killed.

The Onstar system in the vehicle was supposed to contact emergency personnel, but it was not until 45 minutes later that another motorist called for help. During this time, the couple remained trapped in their vehicle.

It will be interesting to see if the couple receives any damages from Onstar due to the defective nature of the device. Stay tuned for updates!
