Why do Motorcycle Accidents Happen?

You understand the importance of driving in a safe manner. You also understand the importance of wearing protective gear. Even though you are 100 percent prepared for anything that comes your way, the fear of an accident may always be in the back of your mind.

As a motorcyclist, you realize that an accident can have serious implications on your health. Every year, thousands of people are injured and killed in this type of accident. Below are some of the primary causes of such accidents:

  1. Car making a left hand turn. This often happens when going through an intersection or attempting to pass the vehicle.
  2. Lane splitting. This is when a motorcyclist drives through the area between two lanes of traffic.
  3. Road hazards. Some roadways are not in the best of condition. For example, deep potholes and gravel may exist. This increases the chance of an accident.

These are just some of the many reasons why motorcycle accidents happen. Some are caused by the motorcyclist, others are tied to the negligence of another party.

As a motorcyclist, being aware of common causes of accidents can help keep you safe.
