In an Auto Accident? What Happens Next?

If you are part of an auto accident it makes good sense to call the police from the scene – if you are able to do so. At this time, gather as much information as you can from the other party as well as any witnesses. With the police on the scene you can be rest assured that the proper information will be recorded.

Involved in a hit and run accident? In this case, make sure you act fast. These must be reported to the police within 24 hours.

At some point, you will need to converse with your insurance company. If another party was involved, their insurer may also contact you. Be aware that both parties will ask for details regarding the accident.

Before you open up to an insurance company it would be in your best interest to consult a personal injury attorney. Whatever you say can be used against you at a later date – and that is not what you want.

Were you the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident? If so, make sure you get an operator’s report from the police. This describes the accident in detail, while also listing any passengers and witnesses. This information can come in handy as you speak with your attorney.

Obviously, if you were injured in the accident all of the above gets pushed to the backburner. Your main priority should be to receive medical attention right away.

Nobody wants to be involved in an auto accident. Unfortunately, this happens from time to time. If you are ever in an accident follow the advice above.
